If you updated your Pebble app for iOS over the last 24 you’ve probably already run into the bug that’s been crashing Pebble smartwatches since Monday afternoon. An update to version 2.1 of the app pushed out yesterday was pulled from Apple’s App Store while the company works on a patch.
If you haven’t downloaded the update you’ll definitely want to hold off. Don’t download it manually and if you have automatic updates turned on head into Settings> iTunes & App Store and then toggle off Automatic Downloads. Unfortunately, if you’ve just picked up a new Pebble smartwatch you won’t be able to sync it with your iPhone for the time being, though Android appears to be working fine right now.
Pebble says it’s close to a fix, and plans to release version 2.1.1 of the iOS app in the near future. You can even sign up to receive an email notification once the issue is resolved. The company is also postponing voting on the latest round of its app challenge so iPhone users have a chance to vote.
This is the first we’ve heard of any real issues with Pebble and hopefully it won’t become a common occurrence as the company’s smartwatch becomes more popular. Pebble got an early head start in the wearables market following a successful Kickstarter campaign, but come summer the company will face down its toughest competition yet in the form of Google’s Android Wear.
