Yesterday afternoon Google officially published a “coming soon” page for HTC One (M8) Google Play Edition. It’s now finally available for order, though it’s not shipping as quick as some of the other Google Play Edition devices. The phone will set you back $699 and will leave Google’s warehouse in two to three weeks. Of course, for folks interested in this device the wait may be well worth it. It’s among the most powerful Google Play Edition devices to date, and it offers super premium hardware but with a pure Android software experience.
The Google Play Edition is unchanged on the hardware front – it still has the same 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 5-inch 1920 x 1080p display, 2,600mAh battery and 5-megapixel wide-angle font-facing camera, too. It also has 32GB of storage and a microSD card slot for adding up to another 128GB. HTC also told us that Google will work to add in support for its Duo Camera setup, which takes advantage of two lenses, one that captures depth information for photos. It’s unclear how Google will add that support at this time, but we hope that a lot of new use case scenarios crop up once developers get their hands on it.
Silver is the only option available for the Google Play Edition HTC One (M8), so the gold and gunmetal colors are out for now. Android and Sense 6 fly on the regular One (M8), so we can’t imagine what the experience is like with naked Android. Let us know if you end up picking one up.
