When OnePlus hinted that a big announcement concerning its Cyanogen-powered smartphone was coming today we figured we’d learn about another high-end spec or unique feature. Instead, the company has announced its first flagship device will launch next month on April 23, which is way sooner than we expected for a company that didn’t even exist until the end of 2013.
The OnePlus One is looking more and more like one of the most exciting smartphones of the year. Beyond it’s CyanogenMod software, the device boasts top tier specs including a Snapdragon 801 processor, a 13-megapixel camera, and a hefty 3,100mAh battery. The company also claims it’s somehow engineered a handset with a 5.5-inch display but the dimensions of a typical 5-inch phone, suggesting this could be the first real edge-to-edge screen to hit the market.
We still haven’t had a real look at the device in question, but it looks like it won’t be long before it’s officially unveiled. We assume the event will take place in China, where OnePlus is based, but we’ll still be covering the new phone even if we can’t be there to see it announced it person. The company still has about a month left to tease the device before its launch though. Stay tuned.
