In addition to announcing the HTC One (M8) and Sense 6, or affectionately being coined “Sixth Sense,” HTC announced it is opening its popular newsreader BlinkFeed to developers.

HTC’s newsreader/alert center/heart, BlinkFeed, will open the platform to third-party developers, with Foursquare and Fitbit already being announced to build integration into the app.

For Fitbit, it will use the HTC One (M8)’s internal sensors to act as a traveling pedometer, no need to wear a separate sensor or band here. The SDK will allow other developers to make it easier for users to access feeds, notifications and really whatever else those clever developers can think of.

This is all an effort to make BlinkFeed that much more useful to consumers, but it will all depend on how many developers hop on board eventually. Starting with useful apps such as Foursquare – to make suggestions for what is near you – and Fitbit does seem like a good start, however.
