Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Gets the 16-bit Treatment

Much like Lighting Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix has released a new video that paints Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn in a whole new light.

Only unlike the first video’s ridiculously incomprehensible retelling of of Lightning’s shenanigans, Final Fantasy XIV‘s MMORPG gameplay makes for a much more understandable video in that a party of characters work together to take down a tough boss. No need for plot, no need for awkward pacing. While not nearly as informative as the previous video, this one is more digestible.

If only we could look past the obvious references to Final Fantasy: All the Bravest.

With these videos, you would think that Square Enix understands the endearing popularity of the 16-bit Final Fantasy games, and that making a brand new one might be in the company’s interest. At least we have Bravely Default to carry on the classic Final Fantasy torch.

Any Final Fantasy fans enjoying Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn? I just ordered my copy through the Square Enix March Madness sale, and it looks more in line with the classic series than other recent iterations. Maybe I’ll drop a subscription on it for a month and try not to get sucked in too much. Don’t need that World of Warcraft prison hovering over my head again.
