HTC One (M8) Already Arriving At Verizon Stores, Launching Tomorrow, Says Report

by Brandon Russell | March 24, 2014

Verizon retail stores across the U.S. are apparently being stocked with HTC One (M8) inventory, with expectations to launch the device tomorrow. Once HTC officially unveils its big flagship for the year, consumers will allegedly be able to go to a nearby Verizon store and pick the device up. The report comes from sources speaking with Droid-Life. Previous rumors suggested Verizon would enjoy some form of exclusivity when HTC’s new device is unveiled, and it appears the rumblings may have been right. Last week, Verizon even wrote (and then edited) about the One being available exclusively in its stores starting March 25 (picture below).

The in-store exclusivity doesn’t mean other carriers won’t eventually offer the device. This is probably how availability will play out: the device will get announced, and Verizon will have units on-hand for consumers to buy the day of. In the meantime, customers on other carriers will be able to order the device online or by calling their carrier of choice; units just can’t be bought in-store for the length of Verizon’s exclusive agreement with HTC.

If HTC is really banking on a successful launch, it’s odd for an exclusive deal to exist to begin with. But with one apparently in place, hopefully it won’t last very long. On Verizon’s Facebook page, the carrier only mentions the March 25 date, so perhaps the carrier has dibs on the first day of launch, with other carriers jumping into the fray the following day.

We’ve already pretty much seen the M8 from every possible angle, so tomorrow’s big unveil likely won’t bring many surprises, but it’ll officially kick off HTC’s mobile year. And if the device is available the same day it’s announced, HTC will have a leg up on Samsung, as the Galaxy S5 isn’t scheduled to be available until April 11 on carriers across the U.S.

If that’s not enough for you, Droid-Life points to another gallery of HTC’s new device, via the Facebook page of PDA Plaza. For what it’s worth, the device is for Verizon.
