We’re huge fans of Sonos and its family of speakers, but the company’s app has always been a bit of a weak spot, which can be a real issue when you’re using your smartphone to control the entire setup. So we’re excited to hear that Sonos is rolling out a new and improved Controller app starting today with a public Android beta test.

The focus of Sonos’ new app is search. Type in an artist or song and it scans through all your available music across iTunes, Rdio, Spotify, Beats, and any other music streaming services you use. Search results are displayed in a simple and sleek tabbed layout and grouped by streaming service. It’s a huge improvement over the cluttered look of the old Sonos app.

The biggest improvement may be the ability to control the music in multiple Sonos-equipped rooms at once. You can manage a separate playlist for each part of your home at once or sync all your rooms up to the same song. There’s also some new discovery tools for finding music to listen to.

Sonos Controller 5.0 is available now for Android with an iOS version slated for spring 2014. It’s not in the Google Play Store though, so you’ll need to head to the company’s website via the source link below and sign up for the beta test to try the new app out yourself.
