iPad Pro Cancelled Amid Push for New Tablet Sizes, Rumor Says

The iPad Pro may never become more than just another Apple rumor, according to a new report from DigiTimes claiming the company recently “shelved” plans for a rumored 12.85-inch tablet. The site said larger tablets are facing “difficulties because of lack of support from related platform developers and ecosystems.” The Chinese news site, which only has a so-so track record when it comes to breaking mobile news, goes on to detail alleged tablet plans from both Asus and Google.

Apple’s iPad Pro may be off the table, but Asus is reportedly moving forward with its own 13.3-inch dual-OS tablet in the future. This claim contradicts recent reports suggesting that both Google and Microsoft are firmly opposed to any new dual-OS devices, so whether the already-announced Transformer Book Duet will ever hit the market is still up for debate.

Finally, DigiTimes claims that Google’s next tablet will actually come in at 8.9 inches, suggesting we could be getting a Nexus 9 rather than the rumored Nexus 8. The stock Android tablet would presumably replace the outdated Nexus 10 while offering customers a fresh tablet size at a decent price. Hopefully we’ll also see a new version of Android released at the same time in an effort to boost the operating system’s somewhat lacking tablet performance.
