PlayStation 4 in the woods -07

There’s a new rumor running around that Sony is set to reveal its own take on virtual reality in a matter of days. GDC starts up next Monday, and the word is that the PlayStation 4’s virtual reality headset will be shown off for the first time.

The report comes from EDGE and “developers familiar with the tech.” They claim that Sony’s already given developers access to the headsets, and that the virtual reality is much better than the first incarnation of Oculus Rift. EDGE does note that developers say “that is expected to even out a little with the arrival of Rift’s new, more advanced Crystal Cove devkit.”

As for what will be shown off? Don’t expect a full blown game or a major new piece of software. Instead, EDGE‘s sources say that Sony will likely show some sort of tech demo to the convention goers.

Sony’s GDC presentation will go down on Tuesday, so expect to hear confirmation or denial by way of omission when it comes to this virtual reality possibility by then.

In the meantime, would you be willing to take a shot at virtual reality if it came to the PlayStation 4? Or, are you more interested in traditional couch-and-TV based gaming?
