Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat Update for T-Mobile Arrives Today

Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition-Front

If you own a Galaxy S4 on T-Mobile’s network your KitKat upgrade has finally arrived. The carrier began pushing out an update to Android 4.4.2 on Monday, though it will likely take a few days to hit every unit.

Before accepting the over the air update, you’ll want to run through a quick checklist. You’ll need to be running Android 4.3 for the new software upgrade to work. Your Galaxy S4 should also have at least 50 percent of its charge left along with enough space for the 387MB update file. Also, as usual, we recommend backing up all of your data ahead of time.

The update won’t change much for your Samsung smartphone, though you’ll see your status bar icons are now white. The lockscreen also gets an update with improved album art display and a new shortcut to launch the camera. The update includes support for wireless printing, and you should notice a large bump in performance overall.

Unfortunately, the update doesn’t include any changes to Samsung’s own TouchWiz user interface, which got a flattened look for the Galaxy S5. If you’re hoping to try out the new UI for yourself, you’ll have to pick up a copy of the new smartphone when it hits the market next month, or just cross your fingers and hope for a future Galaxy S4 update.
