As the November launch of the new consoles approached, Watch_Dogs wasn’t just a highly anticipated game. For many gamers, Watch_Dogs was next gen, and without it, there was no reason to purchase a new console. Many gamers were heartbroken when the game was delayed at nearly the last minute, wondering what could cause such a late delay.
Creative Director Jonathan Morin spoke to Eurogamer about what factors ultimately forced the game from Nov. 2013 to May 2014.
The game, says Morin, was missing “important details.” The team wasn’t adding new features, or trying to get microtransactions working, or something like that. They simply felt the various systems in the game weren’t working together quite as perfectly as they would’ve liked.
“When you’re promising a player that they can hack everything and express themselves, they expect the result to be there,” he says. “A complicated game that is broken is no more acceptable than an easier one that works.”
The big casualty of the delay is the Wii U version of the game, which suffered when they had to pull developers off it to get the bigger platforms working the way they wanted.
As to whether the game is going to live up to expectations, Morin is confident. “I think we’re delivering,” he says. Check out the full interview in the source link below.
