Galaxy Gear to Receive Update to Tizen OS

Samsung isn’t forgetting about owners of the original Galaxy Gear despite the launch of the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit. A pretty significant software update is coming its way.

All three of Samsung’s new wearables are foregoing Android as their operating systems, and are instead going with the newer Tizen OS. This could have conceivably caused a fragmentation in Samsung’s wearables division, so it appears that Samsung will replace Android as the OS on the original Gear.

According to a Samsung representative that spoke with TechRadar at Mobile World Congress, the switch over will indeed happen, but no definite date or method for the update was revealed. This means that all of the latest apps will work with your original Galaxy Gear, always a positive for early adopters.

Hopefully the change over what take too long, but Galaxy Gear owners should definitely keep their eyes peeled for an OS update some time in the not too distant future.
