Late last year AT&T announced new Mobile Share plans meant to help cut down on data costs for new and existing customers, and now the carrier is sweetening the deal with unlimited international messaging. Starting Feb. 28, Mobile Share customer will be able to send as many texts, pictures and video messages as they want around the world without worrying about how much it will cost them at the end of the month.

The company is also introducing new budget-friendly rates on international calls for over 35 countries. Starting later this week, any calls made from the U.S. to Mexico, Canada as well as most of South America and the Caribbean will cost just one cent per minute with AT&T’s new international calling package called World Connect Value. The service will be available to postpaid wireless customers starting this Friday.

The new offer should help AT&T compete with its traditional rivals like Verizon and T-Mobile, but it also seems targeted at increasingly popular mobile messaging services like WhatsApp, which offer a cheap, or often free, way to communicate with friends and family around the world. AT&T’s latest announcement should help it fend off upstart competition, while giving it an edge over the other major U.S. carriers at the same time.
