Lovefilm customers in the U.K. are in for a surprise Feb. 26 when the service will merge with Amazon Prime.
Amazon purchased Lovefilm in 2011 and has run it as a separate service since that time. With Netflix having now launched in the country, it appears that it now sees some merits to bring the two services together. The service will cost £79 (approx. $131.55 USD) per year and will actually save customers who already belonged to both 35 percent annually. Customers who sign up now prior to the merger date will be able to snag a year for £49 (approx. $81.55 USD). By comparison, Netflix comes in at just under £72 a year (approx. $119.84 USD).
In addition to the streaming video service, Lovefilm customers will also be picking up 500,000 Kindle books they can borrow and unlimited One-Day Delivery from Amazon.
If you want to get in on the discounted fee, you had better act quickly as you only have a few days left.
The Countdown Begins—Unlimited Streaming of More than 15,000 Popular Movies and TV Episodes Coming to Amazon Prime Next Week

Amazon will also continue to increase its investment in original programming—Amazon Studios’ hit series Alpha House and Betas are coming soon with three original children’s series to follow this year, and the company recently introduced 10 new pilots from creators such as Chris Carter (The X-Files), Eric Overmyer (The Wire, Treme), Michael Connelly (Harry Bosch), Roman Coppola (Moonrise Kingdom), Jason Schwartzman (Saving Mr. Banks), Tony-nominated Alex Timbers, Oscar-nominated Paul Weitz, Emmy-nominated Jill Soloway (Six Feet Under), Ice Cube and Michael Strahan
