Flashback Friday: Modern Business Machines For Writing, Duplicating and Recording

Businesses have always tried to be at the cutting edge of technology. If you have the latest tools it may just give you that edge you need to beat our your competition. This has always been true, and looking at some of the technology in this film on the latest tools from 1946, it’s just mind blowing where businesses are at now.

A spreadsheet that takes up an entire wall? A desk that holds all your files? Some of these things sound really awesome, but it just makes me think, “Wow, doing business in the 1940s took up a lot of physical space.” I’m known around TechnoBuffalo for my love of spreadsheets. I put everything you can think of into spreadsheet format. I would need a gigantic building with endless walls if I used the system shown in this video. Not to mock the time period, that’s what they had, but I will never take cloud storing my spreadsheets for granted ever again.

And do you notice they had an odd obsession with dictation? A whole lot of this video is about transcribing things.

Thank goodness technology in business has come such a long way.
