Konami Compares Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Across Generations

Konami has released a series of images comparing the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes with their next-generation siblings. While they haven’t yet compared the the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions directly – though they’ve promised to do so – they’ve provided a convenient chart that lets us know just how different the two are. PlayStation 3 and 4

The difference between the PlayStation 4 and 3 is pretty stark, with textures snapping into sharp clarity between versions.

Even on the day mission, the sharpness is pretty clear.

Xbox 360 and Xbox One

With the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, the difference seems to be more a matter of improved lighting than anything else, with the textures not showing quite as much change in detail.

The part that’s going to really put things into perspective, though, is the chart Konami includes at the bottom of the page.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 both run at 720p resolution, scaled up internally, at a framerate of 30fps. While both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 run at a silky smooth 60fps, the PlayStation 4 will do so at 1080p and the Xbox One at 720p. This chart, coming straight from the developer and not from the games press or a forum, is going to give fans a lot to think about, and it shows pretty clearly that, even if the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are as close in terms of horsepower as Microsoft would like people to think, the Xbox One is either a lot harder to develop for or is significantly behind on proper firmware and development software.

Konami has promised a comparison of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions, ensuring that it’ll be even easier to tell the difference soon.
