Unsung Story Scrapes Past Kickstarter Goal With Less than a Day Remaining

I was holding my breath for this one, but Yasumi Matsuno’s and Playdek’s Kickstarter campaign for the upcoming strategy RPG Unsung Story has finally crossed the finish line. The requested $600,000 had been collected with only 20 hours remaining, meaning the strategy RPG is now bound for PC, Mac and Linux as well as iOS, Android, and Windows tablets.

Success seemed like a sure thing in the first few days, but Unsung Story took the limbo route and got stuck at around the $300,000 to $400,000 region. This seems to be a pattern for a lot of middle ground Kickstarer projects like this, but as always the final 48 hours mean everything. Media blitzes and reminders from Kickstarter pushed it over the top.

If you haven’t heard about Unsung Story yet, it is being helmed by three of the best personalities to ever emerge from Square Enix. Game designer Yasumi Matsuno, character artist Akihiko Yoshida, and composer Hitoshi Sakimoto have all collaborated before on some of the greatest games ever made. Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy XII are mere highlights of the games these three have touched.

Less than half a day now remains, so be sure to jump on over and give it one more glance. It doesn’t look like too many stretch goals are going to be obtained, but I’m sure Playdek will be able to deliver something fun with what they have. The $750,000 mark will see two of Matsuno’s prefered localizers join the team, and the $1.5 million guarantees a Nintendo 3DS release.

I don’t know if that will happen though.
