Talk about a huge price drop. If the Galaxy Gear turned you off at its $300 price point when it launched, then maybe you’ll reconsider. The smartwatch is now on sale online from Best Buy for just $150 — about what you’ll pay for the original Pebble. The sale applies to the rose gold, lime green, oatmeal beige and wild orange options, while the jet black and mocha gray are still at the already discounted $249 price.
Of course, the Pebble has much longer battery life and a huge array of apps. It also works on Android and iOS, while the Galaxy Gear is limited to select Galaxy smartphones from Samsung. Meanwhile, the Pebble has much better battery life, while you’ll be lucky to get through a few days with the Galaxy Gear. If you spend $100 more, you can pick up the Pebble Steel, which is the best looking and most functional smartwatch out there right now.
The sale is online only, but it does provide a hint to what’s to come. Our guess is that Best Buy is trying to free up some inventory in an effort to make room for something new – like the Galaxy Gear 2 that’s supposed to land at Mobile World Congress later this month. If you want a smartwatch that has a bunch of Dick Tracy functions – like a camera and more, then this is the most affordable chance to get in on the game.
