Even for those who aren’t big into EA’s stable of sports titles, it’s always interesting to see the technology working behind the scenes. This week, EA Sports shows off the process of getting the gentlemen of the UFC into their upcoming game.
EA is not only digitizing every face and cauliflower ear this time around. They’re also going after fighters’ facial expressions and signature moves to try to capture as much of a fighter’s personality as possible.
Once the characters get moving, it’s still pretty easy to tell they’re video games, but when they’re standing still or in a set animation, the line is getting blurrier all the time.
UFC is running on EA’s Ignite engine, and it’s expected sometime this spring on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
