Canon on Tuesday added the new Rebel T5 to its robust DSLR lineup, giving entry-level photographers yet another excellent option to choose from. The camera is meant to attract first-timers, combining flexible controls, size, and most of all, price, into one neat and attractive package. If you have more interest in photography outside of merely using your smartphone, the T5 might be a good place to look.

Equipped with an 18-megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor, the T5 is the kind of solid first step that will help introduce beginners to a wider world of photography. Other specs of the T5 include an ISO range of 100-6400 (expandable to 12800), nine-point AF system, the ability to shoot up to three frames per second, and a large 3-inch LCD screen. Additionally, the T5 is capable of capturing 1080p movies and a full set of creative features, such as photo and video effects, and an array of filters as well.

Canon entry-level DSLRs have always been fun and easy to use while still offering excellent quality, and the T5 looks to carry on that lineage. The T5 will be offered with an EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II lens this March for $549, and the camera is also compatible with the company’s full line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses.
