Samsung is expected to unveil a redesigned version of its Galaxy Gear later this month at Mobile World Congress, but according to one new report the company still hasn’t decided how much to charge for the second-generation smartwatch. ZDNet Korea claims Samsung may drop the price for the Galaxy Gear 2, citing local sources close to the matter.
Despite claims that the $300 smartwatch has been a success, regular price drops and promotional deals have all but confirmed that the device hasn’t been the big seller Samsung was hoping for. With Apple’s iWatch expected to launch later this year, the South Korean company may attempt to formulate a price that would undercut whatever price Apple could come up with for its rumored smartwatch.
Samsung has done an impressive job of keeping its upcoming devices out of view, and with the Galaxy Gear 2 expected to take the stage in just a few weeks alongside the Galaxy S5 we still have no idea what either device will look like. Based on recent reports, the new smartwatch could feature the same flexible OLED used for the Galaxy Round, but we won’t know anything for sure until Samsung makes an official announcement.
