Yahoo‘s done a good job rolling out new, interesting apps keeping its services updated and fresh on iOS and Android, but for Windows Phone users the company hasn’t been quite as helpful. Following several user requests for an updated Flickr app on Windows Phone, Yahoo issued an official response today, confirming that it’s not planning to update the application.
“At this point, we are focusing our mobile development efforts on iPhone and Android apps,” Yahoo wrote. “If this changes, we’ll let you know in the forum here.” Speaking to TechCrunch, a Yahoo spokesperson added that “at times we make tough decisions to prioritize efforts,” and promised new improvement’s to the Flickr app for Android and iOS.
It’s no surprise that Yahoo values Android and iOS far more than Windows Phone as a platform for its services. Microsoft has made some real gains in mobile, even overtaking BlackBerry for third-place, but Google and Apple still dominate the market. Yahoo only has so much money and developers at its disposable, and it stands to gain much more playing to iOS and Android, at least in the short term.
