Finally, Capcom’s reboot to the classic Strider series has been given a release date, and don’t blink now because you just might miss it. Strider is scheduled to be released before the end of the month on Feb. 18 for $14.99.
Double Helix and Capcom’s collaboration on the classic arcade franchise will finally put the iconic ninja back in the spotlight. Along with the normal progression of the game, which magnificently ties the speed of the arcade classic with the exploration of a Metroid game, Strider also sports two more modes of play.
“Beacon Run” will be a seed challenge where running through the level with the fastest possible efficiency is the key to victory, and “Survival Mode” is just as it sounds. Strider Hiryuu must battle against barrages of enemies which grow in strength as each new wave approaches. Of course, the game will have leaderboards and unlockable content for those who do well.
We’re still waiting to find out if the release will be accompanies by the classics Strider and Strider II, though. Japan is set to see a digital re-release of both included in the package. It would be nice, however, if Capcom showed its American audience the same amount of love.
I played the demo for Strider at TGS 2013 and was absolutely floored by what I experienced. I can’t for the life of me pass this one up.
Strider will be released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Feb. 18. The PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC versions will follow the day after.
