Sony has announced a new headset for the PlayStation 4. The Gold Wireless Headset features 7.1 surround sound, custom audio modes made by game developers, a hidden noise cancelling microphone and more.

The announcement of the brand new official headset also brought word of a new firmware update for the PlayStation 4.

Version 1.60 will be available later tonight, and it will bring with it “support for the PULSE and PULSE – Elite Edition wireless stereo headsets to PS4.” The PlayStation Blog explains that ” PS4 owners will now be able to enjoy an enhanced gaming experience with 7.1 virtual surround sound and crystal clear voice chat with our official PlayStation headsets.”

The Gold Wireless Headset is, as Sony puts it, the newest member of the official headset offering. It looks pretty sweet and checks in at $99.99. Which, if you’ve ever gone shopping for wireless audio devices for gaming consoles, isn’t too expensive.

Here’s hoping the sound quality checks out on these bad boys. Anyone interested in picking up a pair when the release early this month?
