Galaxy S5 Fingerprint APK Outed in New Samsung Leak

CES 2014-Samsung Booth-3

With the Galaxy S5 expected to launch in the next few months, we’re eagerly waiting to see how Samsung will respond to Apple’s iPhone 5s and its built-in fingerprint sensor. Well, according to the latest leak from trusted tipster @evleaks, the South Korean company may follow its rival’s lead with a fingerprint reader of its own. At least, there’s apparently software to support the implementation of that kind of hardware.

We’ve already heard a few reports claiming the same thing, but this leaked APK appears to confirm that Samsung is at least developing its own fingerprint scanning technology to counter Apple’s Touch ID. It’s still possible the final version of the Galaxy S5 won’t offer this particular security feature, but it’s looking more and more like a done deal.

Our Twitter tipster also had a few more Galaxy S5 leaks to share last night, though unfortunately they didn’t include a photo of the actual device. In one tweet @evleaks simply confirmed that the new flagship smartphone will indeed be called the Galaxy S5—no surprise there—while in another post he revealed a second mysterious APK for something called “3D Tour Viewer.” Sounds interesting, though we likely won’t know what it actually is until Samsung makes an official announcement. Stay tuned.
