Sony’s QX100 and QX10 Lens-Style Cameras Getting Tablet and Phablet Attachments

Sony introduced a unique new smartphone accessory last year in the form of the Qx10 and Qx100, two lens-style cameras that synced with your device via Bluetooth to take high-quality photos. The cameras also came with a spring-loaded mount to attach directly to your smartphone, though the design wasn’t wide enough to grip onto most tablets.

That’s about to change thanks to a new attachment for the QX10 and QX100 designed to support even the widest phablets and tablets. While the original mount could only stretch up to 75mm, the redesigned versions will cover any device between 85mm and 190mm. The new mount will be available in six different sizes, weighing in at around 31 grams each.

The new camera mounts will launch in Japan on April 4 for 3,675 Yen (roughly $36). There’s no word when or if they’ll arrive in the U.S., though presumably you’ll be able to find one through a reseller at the very least. For now, though, you’re stuck using the wireless Bluetooth connection or just attaching your lens-style camera to a regular-sized smartphone.
