Samsung’s successor to the Galaxy Gear could launch in the next few months according to a new report from ZDNet Korea citing an unnamed industry insider. The South Korean company’s second smartwatch will reportedly launch as early as March or April 2014 at a press event set to take place in London. Such an event is also the grounds for where Samsung is rumored to hold a Galaxy S5 announcement, so the two could coincide.
The Galaxy Gear 2 will offer significant improvements over the original smartwatch, at least on the outside. According to ZDNet, the device will feature a curved screen using the same flexible OLED found in the Galaxy Round or LG’s G Flex. The new Galaxy Gear will also feature a new design to match its curvy screen.
Samsung may have beaten Apple, Google and LG in the race to release a smartwatch but with new entries expected in 2014, the South Korean company will need to introduce some drastic improvements to the Galaxy Gear if it wants to dominate the new product market. The original design and software were seriously lacking and we’re hoping Samsung can turn things around with a second iteration.
