Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is wrapping up this console generation with a huge bang, and all the twisting family drama between the massive cast couldn’t be any more fitting. Mercury Steam has a new trailer showing off all the major players in this latest chapter in the epic storyline.
Gabriel Belmont of course returns to the protagonist’s chair, but after the conclusion of the previous game which saw him turn into the dark lord Dracula himself, you will be taking the reigns as the villain. Why would you ever want to control the world’s ultimate evil?
Well, it’s the lesser of two evils really. Patrick Stewart returns to the role of the wizard Zobek, who charges him with a mission to destroy Satan and his invading armies. His reward? Escape from the eternal coil of reincarnation.
Along for the ride are plenty of other characters from the first game, as well as some new faces. Most noticeably is fan favorite Alucard, the son of Dracula and hero of Symphony of the Night. He makes his first appearance since the story twist in Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate, and he does not hold his father’s memory very near and dear to his heart.
Besides Alucard, a handful of other antagonists and monsters appear in the trailer, each of them well voice-acted and designed with a more comic book sense in mind. Lots of slow motion jumping and low camera angles give them a sense that they are more powerful than they really are. I bet they fall pretty quickly in the face of Dracula.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on Feb. 28.
