A couple times a year, we get to see a game that looks so bad, we cringe as its release approaches. Rogue Warrior and Ride to Hell: Retribution are two of the best recent examples. Now we have Rambo: The Video Game to look forward to. It’s pretty rare that any game with the words “The Video Game” in the title ends up being worth playing, so we’re not expecting a miracle here.
The game looks to be sort of Rambo’s Greatest Hits, depicting scenes from at least the first three Rambo movies. There are a lot of emplaced gun battles where Rambo is stationary or constrained to a small space while fighting a gallery of enemies. There’s also a stealth sequence which showed some minor promise and a quicktime event set during the first movie.
I don’t have any delusions about this game being good, but maybe it’ll light a fire under the Call of Duty guys to get them working on doing something new with the series, because it didn’t look all that different aside from the presence of a bow and arrow.
