Ubisoft announced in a press release this week that it has partnered with the Tetris company to develop Tetris titles for next generation consoles. They didn’t have anything to say about just what they were planning to do with the license, but it will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One’s digital marketplaces.

As Joystiq notes, the big question is, what the heck can they do with Tetris that someone hasn’t already done? I’m going to bank on an always-online free-to-play version with microtransactions.

That actually sounds like a real thing. Please don’t do that, Ubisoft. Leaderboards, a sweet two-player mode, and slick presentation are enough.
