Call us crazy, but we still have a hard time believing Apple has a 12.9-inch iPad coming down the pipeline. There are plenty of rumors claiming that the company does, though, and the latest suggests that Apple will launch its new larger iPad during the third quarter of this year at the very earliest. Beware, though, the story comes from DigiTimes which doesn’t have the most accurate track record in reporting on Apple news.

The rumor suggests that Apple is working to “accelerate development” of its larger iPad in face of Samsung’s new 12.2-inch Galaxy Note Pro tablet  As MacRumors suggests, and we agree, Apple hasn’t ever been the sort of company to rush a product to try to catch up to competitors, in fact, Tim Cook often says that Apple prides itself on creating the highest quality products, not necessarily those that match what competitors are doing. In any case, that’s what DigiTimes suggests: that Apple is trying to push out its 12.9-inch iPad by the third quarter of this year.

Apple may very well have a larger iPad up its sleeves, and some rumors have suggested it may be called the iPad Pro. Fair enough. But Apple rushing to get an iPad out the door? That doesn’t seem very plausible.
