Steam has pushed its influence and expanded greatly over a very prosperous year. Since last October, when the digital distribution service had reported 65 million active users, the number has spiked dramatically pulling in 10 million new customers alone over a two and a half month period. The new tally stands at 75 million users, as Valve reports from Steam Dev Days.
In fact, the traditional markets for Steam, North America and Western Europe, are the slowest growing of the bunch as they are already home to 41 and 40 percent of Steam’s user base respectively. It is booming markets like Brazil and Russia which are seeing the biggest jump in sales, jumping 75 percent and 128 percent since last year.
The lack of press at Steam Dev Days is making it difficult to get information from the company, but cracks are revealing that 2,000 Steam machines have been given away to developers, and Valve wants more than video games to be showing up.
Just how big is Steam going to get?
