Skype iOS update

Microsoft rolled out an update for its Skype apps on iPad and iPhone today, improving the service’s messaging feature as well as providing two-way HD video chat for Apple’s latest mobile devices.

The big news here is HD two-way video calls, which is great but unfortunately limited to a small number of Apple devices. To take advantage of the new feature you’ll need an A7 chip, which Cupertino introduced with the iPhones 5s and also powers the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display So if you opted for an iPhone 5c you’re unfortunately out of luck.

Even if you don’t have an A7 chip powering your phone or tablet, there’s still a reason to update Skype. The app’s messaging component is also getting some much needed upgrades. The new update will let you receive messages even when the app is closed, and also promises to sync faster across all your devices, turning Skype into a potentially competitive messaging service.
