Last week a rumor surfaced that Sony’s next flagship smartphone, codenamed Sirius, will be announced during Mobile World Congress next month. Now, AndroidSaS has reportedly confirmed the rumors, citing an allegedly reliable source who claims the Xperia Z2 will be announced this February. The latest news was also given a retweet of approval by @evleaks, who’s reliable when it comes to breaking mobile news.

According to AndroidSaS, the Xperia Z2 will come equipped with a 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440-pixel display, a 20.7-megapixel camera, and a 3700mAh battery. The device will also feature an even thinner design than the Z1, a water-resistant coating, and will run the latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS. The most notable spec there is the display, which is sharper than any other we’ve seen on a smartphone, though Samsung is also reportedly working on phones with similar resolutions.

We’re big fans of the Xperia Z1, and there’s little doubt the Z2 will be even better as Sony continues to improve on its smartphone design. The company recently denied that a new flagship handset is in the works, and even if AndroidSaS claims its source is reliable we won’t be able to confirm the Xperia Z2 until it receives an official announcement. We’ll be on the ground during Mobile World Congress, so if the Z2 does break cover you can expect full coverage of it right here.
