Moto G Gets Android 4.4 KitKat Update in UK Ahead of Moto X

If you picked up a Moto G in the U.K. we’ve got some good news, the £135 handset ($179 and up in the U.S.) is graduating to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, making it the first non-Nexus device in England to get the upgrade.

The Moto G even beat Motorola’s flagship Moto X to the punch in the U.K., which comes as a surprise to us here in the U.S. where the flagship handset upgraded to KitKat ahead of even some Nexus devices. However, it makes sense when you consider the Moto X is really a domestic (U.S.) smartphone—it’s still only available in black or white outside of the country—while the Moto G was designed to target the global market.

If you’re outside the U.S. and picking between these two smartphones there are a few things to consider. It seems clear the Moto G will be first in line to receive future update and also comes at a significantly lower price. However, the Moto X boasts better specs, a bigger screen and smarter software. Finally, if customization is your priority you’re better off with the Moto G features a removable back that can be swapped out for different designs and colors. At the end of the day though, these are two great smartphones and you can’t really go wrong either way.
