iBeacon Coming to Grocery Stores to Help With Your Shopping

by Jacob Kleinman | January 6, 2014

Apple’s already rolled out iBeacon to its chain of flagship stores and the technology’s been tested at the Sun Life Stadium in Florida, but now iOS 7’s indoor-mapping feature could make its way to your local supermarket.

Mobile to Mortar, a new iBeacon platform from inMarket, works using several different apps to improve your shopping experience and help you save money. List Ease lets you organize a shared shopping list which can be updated on the fly by every member of your household. Another app, CheckPoints, helps you hunt down rewards and discounts, while FreeCoupons sends you a notification whenever you’re within shopping distance of a discounted item you previously tagged.

For now, Mobile to Mortar is only available in select Giant Eagle and Safeway outlets in San Francisco, Seattle and Cleveland. The company says it has plans to expand in the next few months though, and we’re looking forward to giving these new iBeacon apps a try.
