The 2014 Consumer Electronics Show has already started off with a bang, and now AT&T and Asus just confirmed that AT&T will carry the Asus PadFone X sometime in the near future. Neither announced a price or release date just yet, though it’s the first time that one of Asus’ unique PadFone products will be available to U.S. consumers.
If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, the PadFone is basically a phone and a tablet. Simply insert the 5-inch smartphone into a small area on the back of the tablet, and you have a full-sized 9-inch HD tablet that’s entirely powered by your phone. Better yet, the tablet can hold its own charge and add extra juice to your smartphone when needed. Additionally, AT&T’s model will support both HD Voice and VoLTE.
Asus didn’t provide full specs for the PadFone X just yet, though early rumors suggested it will operate on a Snapdragon 800 processor and offer Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. We’ll let you know more about the specs as soon as we have them.
