Polaroid Announces $1,000 50-Inch 4K TV

Polaroid has issued a press release about the televisions it plans to showcase at CES, and amongst them was what we have all been waiting for: The $1,000 4K TV

The new television set from Empire Electronics Corp, an authorized Polaroid licensee who uses the famous brand name, will release the 50GSR9000 some time this year. The 50-inch 4K TV will have a suggested retail price of $999.99, marking a true turn in the 4K market. Up until now the sets have been well out of reach of most consumer’s budgets, but a drop in pricing was inevitable.

While this is not the likes of a Samsung, Sony or Toshiba 4K falling into this price range, once you see the “off brand” companies do it, the bigger names are usually not too far behind.

Of course, part of the issue with 4K adoption at this time has not only been the price, but the lack of content available at that resolution. Amazon recently announced that it would be shooting all of its original content this year in 4K, but that is definitely the exception, and not the rule.

The new set will be on display at CES next week and we’ll be sure to swing by and bring you a report on it. Even if this isn’t the set for you, the age of 4K television sets seems to be in full swing now, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more budget sets announced next week at the show.
