Nidhogg isn’t out yet. It won’t be for nearly two more weeks. That doesn’t mean it arrives without buzz, of course. This game has a lot of awards to its pre-release name. It has five of them splashed at the top of its official site, alongside a few finalist medals.
In Nidhogg, two players compete to reach opposing sides of the screen. They must both be onscreen at once, however, and that creates a sort of power struggle. You’ll fight to kill your opponent in order to gain ground in the virtual space.
The 2D fencing that occurs looks insane, and you can see that in action in the trailer at the head of this post.
Aside from presenting some gameplay, the Nidhogg trailer also serves to announce the game’s release date. After a long time in development, Nidhogg will be available to PC gamers on Steam starting Jan. 13, 2014.
This game looks pretty crazy. Anyone interested in giving it a go? Perhaps we’ll do a Let’s Play for it down the line.
