Moto X Off-Contract Price Dropped to $399 Permanently

Following the success of its Cyber Monday flash sales, Motorola announced yesterday that the savings will continue in 2014 for the Moto X. The Google-owned company is now offering the customizable handset for just $399 off-contract on every major U.S. carrier, down significantly from its original price of $550, though a hair more than the Cyber Monday sale price.

The latest move by Motorola is part of a general trend toward offering high-quality devices off contract, which kicked off with the Moto G last year. Senior vice president of product management Rick Osterloh, confirming the price drop, said that consumers can save more money on a month-to-month or pre-paid wireless plan over the high bills that come with a subsidized smartphone. Motorola will even help finance your new Moto X with no interest as long as you pay off the cost within a set time period of six, 12 or 18 months.

The Moto X was one of the best phones of 2013—and our personal choice for smartphone of the year—so even in 2014 it’s still a great choice. The device’s emphasis on smart and simple software means it won’t fall behind as soon as the next generation of flagships hit the market. At $399 off-contract, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better deal anywhere else.
