LG’s Octa-Core Odin Processor Leaks in New Benchmark

Heading into 2014, we’re expecting to see a lot more octa-core processors powering the best new smartphones. Samsung already released its first 8-core smartphones earlier this year with plans to continue the trend next year, and now it looks like LG will follow suit with its own Odin CPU. The LG Odin made an appearance earlier this week in AnTuTu benchmarks, aead of an expected official launch early next year.

Going up against a handful of other high-powered processors, the LG Odin faired decently even beating out the Exynos 5410 found in international versions of the Galaxy S4 but falling behind the Exynos 5420 and the Tegra 4 in tests running up to 1GHz. Going up against the LG G2’s Snapdragon 800 the Odin was a clear winner in almost every category.

There’s no word on when this octa-core processor will get an official launch, though we wouldn’t be surprised to see it featured in the LG G3 early next year. Recent rumors suggest LG’s next flagship handset will launch as early as MWC 2014 with a new processor. For now this is still largely speculation, though the fact that LG is already benchmarking its Odin chip suggests a new product launch may be fast approaching.
