Nihon Falcom is one of the founding fathers of JRPGs from back in the early 1980s, a genre that has been seeing a very warm and welcome resurgence over the last few years. Its Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky turned a lot of heads for its reverence to old fashioned JRPGs, and the recent release of Ys: Memories of Celceta on the PS Vita has been getting a warm reception. Where else is left to go besides next-gen?
The company mentioned its next project in an interview, translated by Siliconera. It has a new PlayStation 4 game planned.
Nihon Falcom is currently working on a sequel to The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Flash, so this new game should be arriving after that. I can’t wait to see what the old timers can do with fresh technology.
Much of the company’s resurgence can be attributed to localizing company XSEED, which has done a fabulous job bringing over as many games from the aging company as possible and putting a true effort into translations and voice acting. It is currently finishing up on releasing the entire Trails in the Sky trilogy in HD through Steam.
