Twitter chairman and Square CEO Jack Dorsey now holds yet another leadership position: he has officially joined Walt Disney’s board of directors.
“Jack Dorsey is a talented entrepreneur who has helped create groundbreaking new businesses in the social media and commerce spaces,” Disney chairman and chief executive officer Robert A. Iger said. “The perspective he brings to Disney and its Board is extremely valuable, given our strategic priorities, which include utilizing the latest technologies and platforms to reach more people and to enhance the relationship we have with our customers.”
Dorsey will serve as an independent director until March 18, 2014, when he will need to be officially elected during the company’s annual meeting. He will then replace Judith L. Estrin, who has served on the board for 15 years but will not seek another election.
Dorsey said he is humbled to join Disney’s board and that he grew up learning and admiring the company.
