BlackBerry recently announced that it has cancelled its annual developer conference, which is held each year in Orlando, Florida. TechnoBuffalo has been attending the show for the past few years, and it comes as a bit of a surprise, particularly as the company tries to rebuild.

The show is focused almost entirely on developers, providing them with devices, tools, workshops and more to build applications for the company’s app store. As BlackBerry has struggled against Android and iOS, however, the need for a standalone show has come into question. Now, BlackBerry is going to try a different strategy by hosting smaller shows around the world instead of one major show once a year.

“We’re planning to continue with an engaging lineup of smaller, targeted events taking place all around the world over the next 12 months,” BlackBerry said on its blog. “These events are designed with a greater focus on the specific business, developer, and partner audiences, and will allow you to get the most out of your attendance.”

For now, it sounds like BlackBerry Live is officially dead for the foreseeable future. Maybe it will comeback if BlackBerry ever regains its lost ground. If so, we’ll be back at it again, reporting live from the Orlando Marriott.
