Acer on Monday officially named Jason Chen its new chief executive officer. Chen will assume his role starting on Jan. 1. Chen comes from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) where he currently works as the senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing.
“Jason is an excellent manager with extensive management experience and proven execution capability,” Acer chairman Stan Shih said. “Acer’s search committee met with him on several occasions for in-depth dialogue and exchange of views. We consider him to be the ideal executive to lead our transformation with his wealth of new thinking, international perspective, and willingness to face this challenge. Moreover, he shares the consensus on our strategy and development for Acer’s future.”
Acer’s previous CEO, J.T. Wang, resigned last month following the company’s poor third quarter 2013 earnings report and consecutive losses. Chen will need to work to turn Acer’s fortunes around, which will include a focus on cost-cutting and building up its consumer brand recognition.
