Behind an earnest “#AlwaysImprove” campaign on Twitter, Oppo confirmed its Find 7 handset will possess a 2,560×1,440 pixel (2K) display when it launches (presumably) next year, jumping well ahead of the 1080p trend we saw in 2013. Other than that little tidbit, it’s unclear how else the handset will dazzle, though the spec bump is very clearly meant to jumpstart the mobile display war as we head into a new year. Are 1080p screens about to get shoved aside for an even higher resolution?

The shock and awe has certainly been initiated; the timing is particularly notable this close to CES. Other rumored specs of the Find 7 include a Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM and a 4,000mAh battery. It better have a substantial battery with a 2K screen, otherwise consumers will need to find a power outlet every few hours. On a handset that’s often in your pocket and sports a screen somewhere in the 4.7- to 6-inch region, is a 2K display the way to push the mobile market forward? Oppo better impress when the Find 7 is officially announced, and we have a feeling it will.
