One of the original huge Kickstarter successes, Wasteland 2, has been released on Steam Early access. inExile Entertainment’s revival of gaming’s earliest example of post-apocalyptic role-playing has been receiving a lot of attention thanks to participation from veteran designers in the genre.
The 70,000+ people who backed the project already have access to the beta test, but anyone can join in the fun for $59.99.
The Early Access grants the ability to play an early build of the game as well as two digital novellas, the digital OST from Mark Morgan and the concept artwork comic book.
inExile Boss and Project Lead Brian Fargo says that the core RPG mechanics are in place, but there is still a lot more room for expansion.
“Now, however, is the stage of development where the magic happens. With most of the mechanical issues behind us, now we can really start digging deep into the game and finding ways of taking it from good to great. No amount of prepping and planning can replace old-fashioned hands-on playing, testing and iteration time, which is why we are so grateful to have you, our backers, help us hone this process like never before.”
inExile also has the largest Kickstarter project to date with Torment Tides of Numenera being the only video game to break the $4 million mark. Both games have the backing of Chris Avellone, the great scenario writer back in the days of Black Isle Studios.
Check it out, especially if you are a fan of turn based strategy and old-time PC RPGs.
