SwiftKey Update Brings 500 Emoji and Optional Number Row

swiftkey update emoji

Not to be outdone by Android 4.4 KitKat, SwiftKey rolled out an update of its own today, offering up more emoji than you’ll ever need—500 to be precise—on the popular Android keyboard app. SwiftKey 4.5 beta is free to download and also adds quick access to an entire row of number keys.

Emoji are nice and all, but what SwiftKey is doing with them is actually pretty cool. You can still use the little cartoony pictures the way you normally would—scrolling through the menu to manually pick out the one you want—but with 500 to choose from the updated app has (thankfully) introduced an alternative solution. Type out a word and SwiftKey will offer up the corresponding emoji.

The newest version of SwiftKey also adds an optional row of number buttons, giving you immediate access without switching to a secondary keyboard. This feature won’t show up automatically with the update, but if you want to take advantage of it head into settings by holding down the “123” button, then tap Theme & Layout and enable the “Number Row” option.

The update is available for Android now.
