Former iPod Head Tony Fadell Purchased the (RED) Mac Pro, Gold EarPods

Who ended up buying the only shiny red Mac Pro in existence? Turns out, the Apple product ended up in the hands of a former Apple vice president, Tony Fadell, who won the device during a recent auction for the charity (RED). Fadell served at Apple as the senior vice president of the iPod division until 2008, when he departed the firm and co-created today’s smartest thermostat, the Nest.

According to AppleInsider, which spotted images on Twitter, Fadell acquired the Mac Pro for $977,000, a far cry from Apple’s starting asking price for the computer, which is $3,000. The auction house originally expected to make anywhere between $40,000 and $60,000 on the computer, which just goes to show how high the demand was (or how generous Fadell is, depending on how you look at it).

Meanwhile, Fadell also purchased solid rose gold EarPods at the auction for $461,000.

Yep, we’re jealous.
