Google-Chromecast Plugged Into TV

Google announced today that Chromecast will support 10 new apps, adding new content and the ability to stream local media onto your TV. Over the next few days, Google’s $35 HDMI stick will gain access to VEVO, Red Bull.TV, Songza, PostTV, Viki, Revision 3—where you can watch TechnoBuffalo videos—and BeyondPod.

The device will also support apps for Plex, Avia and RealPlayer Cloud, three services designed to let you stream local content uploaded from your computer to the cloud. Unfortunately, that means you still can’t stream videos, photos and music directly from your device to your TV using Chromecast. Instead, you’ll have to go through a third-party app, though that’s still an improvement.

A handful of the new apps are already available, while others will likely arrive by the end of the week. To make sure they work, check that you’re running the latest possible version of Android or iOS on your device.
